With more than thirty years of fundraising and public relations experience, Susan Carsen provides counsel in all areas of advancement, serving clients in culture and the arts, education, human services, and health care. Susan started her fundraising career in staff positions at Stanford University Medical Center’s Office of Development; later serving as part of the start-up team of what is now the Tech Museum of Innovation and as Vice President for Development and Public Relations for Peninsula Community Foundation. She has been consulting in the non-profit sector since 1993. In addition, Susan managed a support foundation for a department at UCSF and helped with the startup of a small family foundation. She served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Golden Gate Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and is now a member of AFP’s Peninsula Consultants Group and a member of Women in Consulting Leaders’ Network. Susan is a graduate of the University of California, Davis.
In addition to her work with feasibility and planning studies, capital campaigns and major gifts, Susan has valuable experience in “prospecting methodology.” This is an arc of strategies and tactics prior to, during and after the study that enable organizations to discern possible interviewees, donors and volunteers who are not already part of the organization’s “family” as well as strategies to engage them.
